MK Ahmad Tibi (Ta’al) shared a photo on his Instagram story showing himself and other MKs eating non-kosher food from Knesset dishes at their Ramadan pre-fast meal. In the image posted by Tibi, he is pictured using dishes from the Knesset’s kosher cafeteria to consume food that does not meet kosher standards.
This post sparked outrage among MKs and Knesset staff, with many expressing their view that it was an affront to the religious values and kashrus regulations within the Knesset.
The Betsalmo organization reached out to the Knesset Ethics Committee, calling for Tibi to face severe repercussions for what they considered a breach of Knesset rules.
“This is an irresponsible and unprecedented act. We demand that the Ethics Committee take significant steps to ensure that such incidents do not repeat themselves,” they stated.
The Knesset Rabbi’s office confirmed that the matter is currently being reviewed.
In response, MK Tibi commented, “If they won’t bring us food for our ‘Sahur’ meal during Ramadan, we’ll bring. I don’t know of such a complaint and no one said anything to us. In any case, these Ka’ak (Arab bagels) taste better than kosher food and that’s scientifically proven. To the case in point: this Knesset is Kahanist, and most importantly, it’s not kosher.”
