MSNBC hosts Nicolle Wallace and Rachel Maddow are facing intense backlash after using a deeply moving moment involving President Trump and 13-year-old cancer survivor Devarjaye “DJ” Daniel to push their political agenda, with critics condemning their remarks as “sick and twisted.”
During his speech to Congress on Tuesday night, Trump paid tribute to DJ’s incredible courage in battling brain cancer, one of the most heartfelt moments of the evening. The young boy, proudly dressed in a police uniform, beamed as he was honored as an honorary Secret Service agent and showed off his badge to the audience.


Despite the touching nature of the moment, Wallace and Maddow wasted no time turning it into an opportunity to criticize Trump while speaking on an MSNBC panel.
Maddow launched into an unexpected and harsh critique, branding Trump as “disgusting” for celebrating DJ’s fight against cancer, a battle doctors had initially warned would claim the boy’s life within months.
“For the record – and this is disgusting – the president made a spectacle out of praising a young man who’s thus far survived pediatric cancer – as if the president had something to do with that,” Maddow declared, her disdain evident.
Wallace, on the other hand, took an entirely different approach, attempting to tie DJ’s dream of joining law enforcement to the events of January 6, 2021.
“I hope he’s alive for another 95 years and I hope he lives the life he wants to live. He wants to be a cop, he knows what he wants to do and maybe when you have childhood cancer that crystallizes for you,” Wallace commented, stating that she initially felt happiness watching DJ’s moment in the spotlight.
However, she quickly veered into a controversial tangent, saying, “I hope he has a long life as a law enforcement officer, but I hope he never has to defend the United States capitol against Donald Trump’s supporters and if he does, I hope he isn’t one of the six who loses his life to suicide.”
She then escalated her argument further, adding, “And I hope he isn’t one that has to testify against the people who carried out acts of seditious conspiracy and then lived to see Donald Trump pardon those people.”
The comments ignited a firestorm of criticism across social media, with many slamming the MSNBC hosts for dragging a young cancer survivor into their political attacks.
“MSNBC just used DJ Daniel to attack President Trump. THESE PEOPLE ARE SICK AND TWISTED,” one user on X fumed.
Another critic blasted Maddow, writing, “Rachel Maddow is foul. She couldn’t leave the poor boy out of politics. What a great night for DJ Daniel! Pathetic Maddow needs to get over TDS!”
Others echoed similar sentiments, with one user expressing outrage over Wallace’s remarks: “MSNBC actually politicized DJ Daniel’s moment at the Joint Address tonight. DJ Daniel was diagnosed with a brain tumor and this hack Nicole Wallace is talking about suicide and J6? She needs to be fired.”
