Elon Musk, appointed by President Donald Trump to head the Department of Government Efficiency, stated on Thursday that he believes the ambitious target of reducing federal spending by $1 trillion is achievable without compromising essential services.
In an interview with Fox News, Musk expressed confidence that DOGE could identify $1 trillion in savings, reducing the current $7 trillion federal budget to $6 trillion.
“The government is not efficient, and there is a lot of waste and fraud, so we feel confident that a 15% reduction can be done without affecting any of the critical government services,” Musk explained.
As of Monday, DOGE reported savings of $115 billion for U.S. taxpayers, a result of various initiatives, including staff cuts, asset sales, and the cancellation of contracts.
