The Shin Bet (ISA) has successfully disrupted an imminent bombing attempt targeting IDF troops operating in Judea and Samaria, according to an announcement made Tuesday evening by both the Shin Bet and the IDF.
In a collaborative effort over the past month, the Shin Bet, IDF, and YAMAM carried out a series of arrests targeting terrorist networks in Qabatia, a town near Jenin. These cells had been preparing to launch significant attacks in the near future.
On January 11, a coordinated raid by the Shin Bet, YAMAM, and IDF forces from the Samaria Brigade resulted in the capture of Ahmed Ali Zakharna and Tarek Abu Zeid in Shechem (Nablus). The two individuals were en route to execute a shooting attack in Huwara when they were apprehended. Security personnel found them armed with two M16 assault rifles.
Interrogations revealed that the suspects were operating under the direction of terrorist operatives affiliated with the Jenin Battalion. It was also uncovered that they had received a powerful explosive device weighing 100 kilograms, intended for a large-scale attack targeting IDF soldiers.
The IDF released a statement regarding the recent developments: “Over the past few days, soldiers of the Nachal Brigade joined the counterterrorism operation in northern Samaria and operated in the towns of Qabatiya, Silat al-Harithiya, and Al-Yamun with ISA direction.”
“During the counterterrorism operation, the soldiers searched dozens of terrorist infrastructure sites, apprehended 15 terrorists, located weapons, and dismantled explosives, including a high-powered improvised explosive device.”
The military further emphasized its ongoing commitment to national security, stating, “Israeli security forces continue their counterterrorism activities to thwart terror throughout Judea and Samaria, and to maintain the safety of the citizens of Israel.”
