A passerby recently discovered classified and highly sensitive military documents in the parking lot of an office building in Ramat Gan. The individual promptly handed them over to the building’s security officer, who immediately informed both the police and the IDF. Military officials later confirmed the details, explaining that an internal investigation determined the documents belonged to retired Brigadier General Erez Weiner, who currently serves in the IDF Southern Command reserves.
The investigation revealed that Weiner had unintentionally dropped the documents after parking his car and heading to a meeting in the building. He later acknowledged his mistake, and officials pointed out that he should never have taken the sensitive materials off the military base, much less left them unsupervised.
According to Ynet, the incident occurred more than a month ago, yet the IDF has not yet taken any disciplinary action, stating that they were waiting for the results of the inquiry. There have also been allegations that Weiner was involved in providing classified military information to Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich, who also holds a position in the Defense Ministry with authority over the West Bank.
The military is handling the matter at the command level and has stated that it is still evaluating whether any security breaches resulted from the incident. As of now, the IDF’s Military Police Criminal Investigation Division (MPCID) has not launched an official investigation into the matter.
