The Palestinian Authority has been stepping up its efforts in recent days to capitalize on the public demonstrations against Hamas in the Gaza Strip, aiming to restore its influence in the region. Fatah Movement Spokesperson Abdel Fattah Dawla discussed these protests in an interview with Sawt Falastin radio, pointing out that they serve as a strong message from the people of Gaza, urging national unity in support of PA Chairman Mahmoud Abbas.
Dawla stressed that Hamas is to blame for the failures in Gaza and the suffering endured by its residents. He called for the transfer of authority in Gaza to “the State of Palestine – which has the legal and national responsibility for the Palestinian people.”
Hisham al-Barawi, a prominent clan leader in northern Gaza, voiced his backing for the protests and criticized Hamas for driving the region to the brink of collapse. In an interview with the official Palestinian radio, he urged Hamas to “respect the will of the public and pass control onto the PA.”
Al-Barawi highlighted the crucial need for “national unity under Mahmoud Abbas’s leadership” and called on Hamas to end its exclusive rule over Gaza. “The public in Gaza is stating its opinion, and it has been suffering for 18 years under a failed regime. The time for change has come.”
