Almost 50% of Israelis support controversial efforts to cancel the upcoming September elections, according to a joint poll between i24NEWS and Israel Hayom.
The possibility of canceling the election has been floated by Netanyahu and his right-wing Likud party weeks after the incumbent premier failed to form a governing coalition and parliament was dissolved.
Knesset speaker Yuli Edelstein (also from the Likud party) said Tuesday he had “found a parliamentary framework and there is an option to cancel the most unnecessary elections in Israel’s history.”
According to the poll, 48% of Israelis supported the move while 29% opposed. 23% of respondents said they ”don’t know.”
