Following a private discussion with Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries on Sunday, four additional senior House Democrats have urged President Joe Biden to withdraw from the 2024 presidential race, as reported by multiple sources.
Representatives Jerry Nadler (D-N.Y.), Joe Morelle (D-N.Y.), Adam Smith (D-Wash.), and Mark Takano (D-Calif.) all advocated for the current president to step down from his reelection campaign during a two-hour conversation with Jeffries, according to information from Politico, the New York Times, and other media outlets.
The four lawmakers expressed their views in a meeting of House Democrats on Sunday, which was convened to discuss the party’s worries and doubts about Biden’s chances of securing a victory in the upcoming November election.
Nadler, Morelle, Smith, and Takano have now joined five other House Democrats who have publicly questioned Biden’s reelection viability after his unsatisfactory performance in the first presidential debate against former President Donald Trump.
