Photos just unveiled by the National Archives and Records Administration (NARA) reveal then-Vice President Joe Biden interacting with Hunter Biden’s business partners during a 2013 trip to Beijing. These images contradict President Biden’s repeated denials of ever meeting his son’s business associates. The photos were released by America First Legal (AFL) on Monday after a two-month delay from NARA, which originally promised to publish them in July.
NARA had informed AFL that the photos would be available on October 24, less than two weeks before Election Day. However, representatives for both President Joe Biden and former President Barack Obama reportedly postponed the release. The images directly challenge President Biden’s long-standing claims of no involvement or interaction with Hunter Biden’s foreign business partners.
The release includes over 125 photos, some of which depict Joe Biden meeting Hunter Biden’s associates from BHR Partners, including Jonathan Li and Ming Xue. AFL alleges that the Biden administration is blocking the release of an additional 182 images. The revelations undermine statements made by President Biden earlier this year when he denied having met Hunter’s business associates. “I did not interact with their partners,” Biden told reporters, despite Hunter Biden admitting during a congressional impeachment inquiry that his father had attended a couple of dinners with his partners in Washington, D.C.
In December 2023, President Biden dismissed allegations of involvement with Hunter’s business partners as “a bunch of lies.” However, the photos indicate otherwise. Testimony from former Hunter Biden associate Devon Archer further corroborates these interactions, including Joe Biden writing college recommendation letters for Jonathan Li’s children.
According to AFL, these photos validate findings by the House Oversight Committee, which has been investigating the Bidens’ business dealings. AFL stated, “These photos corroborate the House Oversight Committee’s investigative findings that Hunter Biden arranged for his father to meet with Jonathan Li and other BHR executives during the 2013 China trip, where ‘Mr. Li sought — and received — access to Vice President Biden’s political power.’” This influence reportedly included preferential access to then-U.S. Ambassador to China Max Baucus as a condition for Hunter and his associates’ involvement in the BHR deal.
At the time, Hunter Biden was in the process of launching BHR Partners, and the photos even show Joe Biden introducing his son to Chinese President Xi Jinping. The House Oversight Committee has identified at least 20 shell companies and discovered over $24 million that flowed to the Biden family between 2015 and 2019, leveraging Joe Biden’s political influence as “the brand.”
“Even while President Biden has pardoned his son, Hunter, for anything and everything ‘he has committed or may have committed or taken part in’ going all the way back to the year 2014, more evidence comes out each day showing how his family leveraged Joe Biden’s even longer career in public office for private gain,” said AFL counsel Michael Ding. AFL emphasized their commitment to exposing the full extent of the Biden family’s alleged corruption in a statement accompanying the photos’ release.
