Federal Bureau of Investigations officials found over 150 homemade bombs at the home of a Virginia man who used pictures of President Joe Biden for target practice, according to prosecutors. Brad Kenneth Spafford, 36, was arrested on Dec. 17 and charged with possession of a firearm in violation of the National Firearms Act. A tip from a neighbor spurred the investigation.
The FBI subsequently found “more than 150″ explosives, described as pipe bombs, in what prosecutors called “the largest seizure” of explosives in the agency’s history, in his home and garage set on a 20-acre farm. Six of the bombs were found in a backpack with a patch that said “#nolivesmatter” in a possible reference to a racist extremist movement.
“The defendant has used pictures of the President for target practice, expressed support for political assassinations, and recently sought qualifications in sniper-rifle shooting at a local range,” said prosecutors in a memorandum seeking to keep Spafford in custody. In a Tuesday filing arguing for their client’s release, Spafford’s lawyers said investigators uncovered no evidence showing he planned to carry out violent acts. Read more at WDBJ7.
