It is with great sadness that Matzav.com reports the passing of Rabbi Levi Yitzchok Wolosow z”l, a dedicated Chabad shliach in New Jersey. He was 43.
Rabbi Wolosow grew up on shlichus in Sharon, Massachusetts, where his parents, Rabbi Chaim and Sara Wolosow, lead the Chabad Center of Sharon.
He pursued his studies at the Educational Institute Oholei Torah in Crown Heights and received his semicha at the Central Yeshiva Tomchei Tmimim Lubavitch.
After marrying Chanale, daughter of Rabbi Boruch and Tova Chazanow, who serve as Directors of Chabad of Western Monmouth County in Manalapan, he and his wife relocated on shlichus to New Jersey.
Rabbi Wolosow served as the Director of Adult Education at Chabad, where he taught classes on Torah, halacha, and Chassidus. He was scheduled to begin teaching a new course, “Decoding the Talmud,” at the Rohr Jewish Learning Institute this Wednesday. Two weeks ago, he shared on Facebook a photo of the course brochure, writing, “In today’s mail! Getting ready for an awesome new JLI class.”
His contributions to Chabad extended far beyond adult education. He taught Bar Mitzvah classes to 13-year-old boys, organized Yom Tov celebrations and community events, and personally visited homes to hang mezuzos and establish kosher kitchens.
He was a beloved shliach, known for his thoughtfulness and warmth. Earlier this month, he participated in a Shabbaton with fellow Chabad shluchim in New Jersey, exclaiming, “I spent an amazing Shabbos with our amazing extended family of Chabad shluchim in the State of NJ! May Hashem continue to bless all of them!” in a Facebook post.
For Yeshiva Week, when many chareidi families take vacations, the Wolosow family traveled to Pennsylvania. On Sunday evening, they attended the Poconos Midwinter Concert at the Kalahari Convention Center in Pocono Manor. During the concert, headliner Avraham Fried performed a selection of songs. At one point, Fried handed the microphone to Rabbi Wolosow, who performed a rendition of the song Tzama Nafshi. Fried was visibly moved by his performance and urged the audience to give him a round of applause.
Tragically, on Monday, the Wolosow family received notice that urgent Tehillim were needed. Just as they began davening, they received the heartbreaking news of his passing. The cause of death has not yet been determined.
He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Chanele Wolosow (Chazanow); their children, Nochum, Dov, Mendel, Tzipa, Miriam, and Uziel; and their adopted children, Naomi and Tani. Rabbi Wolosow is also mourned by his parents, Rabbi Chaim and Sara Wolosow of Sharon, Massachusetts; his siblings, Mrs. Rivky Horowitz of Canton, Massachusetts; Mrs. Goldie Plotkin of Crown Heights (formerly of Toronto); Mrs. Mimi Wilhelm of Portland, Oregon; Rabbi Pasi Wolosow of Toronto, Canada; Mrs. Mushkie Lowenthal of Crown Heights; Mrs. Chanie Minkowitz of Sharon, Massachusetts; Rabbi Leibel Wolosow of Crown Heights; Mendy Wolosow of Hallandale, Florida; Rabbi Berri Wolosow of Crown Heights; Rabbi Zalmi Wolosow of Crown Heights; and Rabbi Shmuly Wolosow of Pittsburgh, PA, as well as extended family.
The levaya will be held on Tuesday in New York.
