Hamas has reportedly proposed a deal that would include the release of around half of the hostages still alive, along with the transfer of several bodies, in return for a ceasefire lasting two months, according to information shared by Palestinian sources with Sky News Arabia.
The offer from Hamas includes more than just a pause in fighting. The group is also insisting that humanitarian aid deliveries must be resumed immediately as a prerequisite for any hostage release.
Furthermore, Hamas is seeking firm commitments from the United States to ensure that negotiations aimed at permanently ending the conflict will commence during the ceasefire. They are also demanding that Israel stop placing restrictions that hinder the flow of humanitarian assistance.
According to the same source, Hamas is skeptical about whether the United States actually has the influence to force Israeli Prime Minister Bibi Netanyahu to stick to any deal that may be reached.
The source referenced the recent return of Edan Alexander, the final American hostage held by Hamas, as a critical moment. Hamas had anticipated that his release would prompt Israel to allow more aid into Gaza. That expectation was not fulfilled, and the Trump administration did not exert pressure on Israel to make that happen.
Additionally, Hamas has asked that relatives of its senior figures be allowed to exit Gaza safely and is demanding assurances from Israel that these individuals will not be targeted.
