A high-ranking Palestinian official shared that efforts to broker a ceasefire and secure a hostage deal have been hindered by obstacles introduced by Israel. In an interview with Shehab, the official revealed that the two sides had nearly reached an agreement, but new Israeli demands and conditions have complicated the situation.
The official explained that Israel has introduced two fresh conditions: one involves the inclusion of 11 soldiers who were not part of the original terms, and the second is a firm demand to receive a list of living hostages.
Regarding these conditions, the official noted that Hamas has shown willingness to engage on the first issue, but has indicated that it will come at a “special price.” As for the second demand, Hamas has maintained that it cannot provide a list of living hostages due to the ongoing conflict.
The official also commented on the slow pace of the negotiations, attributing it to the new Israeli conditions. Despite Hamas’ concerns that Israel may alter its stance at the last minute, he expressed optimism that the discussions in Qatar over the weekend could lead to meaningful progress in the negotiations.
