Israel is evaluating a potential shift in its strategy toward Hamas to deter the terrorist group from harming the hostages still held in Gaza, according to a report by Channel 12 News correspondent Amit Segal.
The proposed measure would establish a direct consequence for every hostage harmed—Israel would annex additional territory from the Gaza Strip. This approach operates under the premise that territorial loss is one of the most significant threats to Gaza’s leadership, and thus, such a move could serve as a powerful deterrent against harming Israeli captives.
Furthermore, Israel remains firm in its stance that any agreement for the release of hostages must adhere to the Witkoff outline. This means that Israel will not accept the release of fewer than half of the hostages as part of a deal, nor will it concede to an extended ceasefire that benefits Hamas.
If enacted, this policy would mark a major shift in Israel’s dealings with Hamas, reinforcing the message that any harm to Israeli civilians will come at a heavy price.
In line with directives from the political leadership, the IDF and the Israel Security Agency (Shin Bet) launched extensive strikes on Hamas terror infrastructure in Gaza early Tuesday morning, targeting key positions of the organization.
