President Donald Trump has set a deadline of two months for Iran to come to an agreement regarding its nuclear program, Axios correspondent Barak Ravid reports. The details of the timeline for this ultimatum remain unclear, particularly regarding its starting point.
According to Iranian officials, they received a letter from Trump last week urging negotiations over Iran’s nuclear capabilities. In the letter, Trump expressed a preference for diplomatic talks but made it clear that if there is no realistic possibility of a successful negotiation, the alternative would be “to do something, because Iran cannot have nuclear weapons.”
Trump also emphasized that the United States is prepared to take whatever actions are necessary to prevent Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons. He warned, “If Iran doesn’t negotiate, it will be very ugly for them,” during an interview with Fox News. “Iran can’t have nukes. Other options are available.”
In related developments, Trump has recently criticized Iran’s continued support of the Houthi rebels in Yemen. “Reports are coming in that while Iran has lessened its intensity on military equipment and general support to the Houthis, they are still sending large levels of supplies. Iran must stop the sending of these supplies immediately,” he wrote on Truth Social.
Trump also commented on the ongoing conflict, stating, “Let the Houthis fight it out themselves. Either way, they lose, but this way they lose quickly. Tremendous damage has been inflicted upon the Houthi barbarians, and watch how it will get progressively worse — It’s not even a fair fight and never will be. They will be completely annihilated!”
