Shamsud-Din Jabbar, the suspect in a recent New Orleans terror attack, reportedly once planned to carry out a gruesome crime: killing his entire family. This revelation comes from law enforcement officials who shared details with ABC News, CNN, and other outlets about videos that Jabbar recorded.
The clips, believed to have been filmed while he was traveling from his Texas residence to New Orleans before the deadly shooting that took 15 lives on New Year’s Eve, show Jabbar discussing his original plan. He reportedly intended to invite his family to a “celebration” where he would then kill them. However, Jabbar is said to have had a change of heart after experiencing a dream urging him to join ISIS, leading him to abandon his initial intentions.
Jabbar, 42, served in the military for over ten years, including a deployment to Afghanistan for most of 2009. While little is known about his personal life, records reveal that Jabbar had been through two divorces and was experiencing financial difficulties, being behind on his mortgage by $27,000 as of 2022.
