Foreign Minister Gideon Sa’ar expressed his support for Justice Minister Yariv Levin’s decision to dismiss Attorney-General Gali Baharav-Miara in a social media post on X/Twitter on Wednesday.
“Removing the Attorney-General from office is an extreme step… but the Attorney General’s conduct is also highly extreme,” Sa’ar stated.
“She has become a full-fledged political player who systematically works against the government with the transparent goal of bringing it down.”
Sa’ar emphasized his strong commitment to the role of the Attorney-General, asserting that the institution itself is being “destroyed” and now only garners confidence from one segment of the public.
He elaborated that while Baharav-Miara initially performed her duties effectively in her first year, her current approach is “the furthest place from there.”
According to Sa’ar, the justice minister had no alternative but to take the steps he announced that evening. He attributed the necessity of this measure to Baharav-Miara’s own actions, stating that her behavior left Levin with no other choice.
Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich also welcomed the move, describing it as “The correct move, so important, so necessary.”
“Perhaps one needs to be here in Washington and learn from President Trump how a real democracy functions, where public servants and officials serve the policies of elected officials and do not repeatedly sabotage them time after time after time,” he remarked.
