Early on Wednesday morning, just before 4:30 a.m., sirens were triggered across central Israel, the Shfela (Lowlands), and Judea following the launch of a rocket from Yemen. Residents in these areas reported hearing explosions in the distance.
The IDF Spokesperson’s Unit clarified that “a missile that was launched from Yemen was intercepted before crossing into Israeli territory.” The IDF also mentioned that the sirens were activated due to the potential risk of falling shrapnel from the interception.
Magen David Adom (MDA) reported that their paramedics attended to around nine individuals who had sustained injuries while heading to shelters, as well as two people suffering from anxiety due to the sirens.
As a result of the sirens, operations at Ben Gurion Airport were temporarily halted for about 30 minutes. A plane approaching the airport was rerouted to the north.
The mayor of Be’er Ya’akov, a city in central Israel near Ness Ziona and Rishon Lezion, shared an update indicating that debris from the intercepted rocket had fallen in the yard of a house in the city’s center. Fortunately, no injuries were reported from this incident.
Earlier, on Tuesday morning, sirens had gone off in central Israel, the Shfela, and the Arad region due to another rocket launch from Yemen. Explosion sounds were also reported by local residents.
The IDF Spokesperson’s Unit noted, “Following the sirens that sounded a short while ago, a projectile that was launched from Yemen was intercepted prior to crossing into Israeli territory.”
The IDF also added, “Rocket and missile sirens were sounded following the possibility of falling shrapnel from the interception.”
Magen David Adom (MDA) reported that over 20 individuals received medical assistance for injuries sustained while rushing to shelters, as well as for anxiety-related issues.
Among the injured was a 60-year-old woman who suffered serious injuries while heading to a shelter in Tel Aviv. MDA paramedics, upon arriving at the scene, found her unconscious with a head injury and transported her to Ichilov Hospital in the city.
