Senator Lindsey Graham (R-SC) on Tuesday voiced strong support for Israel’s right to take decisive steps in response to Houthi aggression, urging the Jewish state to act firmly in its self-defense.
His remarks followed President Donald Trump’s announcement that an understanding had been reached with the Houthis in which they would cease attacks on American ships, and in return, the United States would suspend its military operations targeting the group.
Shortly afterward, the Houthis clarified that while they would halt attacks on U.S. interests, they had no intention of ceasing their strikes against Israel.
“I am very pleased to hear that the Houthis have agreed to stop attacking American vessels. This has come about because of the decisive action President Trump has taken against the Houthis – a terrorist group in Yemen. Peace through strength does work,” Graham wrote in a statement posted on X.
He went on to warn that continued Houthi aggression toward Israel is directly tied to Iranian involvement. “As to the Houthis continuing to attack Israel – they do so at Iran’s own peril. Without Iran, the Houthis do not possess the capability to attack America, international shipping or Israel,” he said.
Graham’s message to Israeli leaders was clear: take the necessary steps to secure the nation. “To my friends in Israel, do what you have to do to protect your airspace and your people. It is long past time to consider hitting Iran hard. It wouldn’t take much to put Iran out of the oil business,” he urged.
In response to a ballistic missile fired at Ben Gurion Airport on Sunday, the Israeli military has launched retaliatory strikes against Houthi assets in Yemen over the past 48 hours.
Most recently, Israeli fighter jets targeted Sanaa International Airport on Tuesday, leveling the facility, which was reportedly used by the Houthis as a conduit for smuggling arms into the country.
This strike followed another Israeli air assault on Monday, which focused on the port of Hodeidah, a key node in the Houthis’ supply chain.
