President Biden allegedly kept the grieving families of Marines slain in Afghanistan waiting for hours while he rested aboard Air Force One, according to multiple relatives, the NY Post reports.
On August 26, Taliban militants took the lives of 13 American soldiers and over 170 Afghan civilians in an attack at the Abbey Gate of Kabul International Airport.
This deadly assault occurred during the final, chaotic stages of the U.S. military’s withdrawal from Afghanistan.
Reports claim that Biden’s nap happened during a “dignified transfer” ceremony at Dover Air Force Base in Delaware, where the president and First Lady Jill Biden were scheduled to honor the fallen soldiers by greeting their caskets.
The families of the deceased expressed outrage at the president’s decision to sleep instead of being present to honor their loved ones, considering it an insult to their memories.
Roice McCollum, whose brother Rylee McCollum was killed in the Kabul bombing, shared her frustration, telling the DailyMail, “Biden made us wait an extra three hours to receive the bodies of our dead family members because he couldn’t pull it together.”
A military officer reportedly informed McCollum that Biden had been napping during this crucial time.
This version of events was also corroborated by Darin Hoover, the father of Staff Sgt. Taylor Hoover, and Christy Shamblin, the mother-in-law of Marine Sgt. Nicole Gee, both of whom lost their loved ones in the attack at Kabul airport.
“We sat in that office for what seemed like an eternity waiting on the doddering old fool,” Hoover remarked to the Mail.
The withdrawal from Afghanistan, after two decades of military involvement, is widely regarded as one of the most significant failures of Biden’s presidency.
The president received harsh criticism from military families, especially after he was seen checking his watch during the dignified transfer ceremony at Dover.
In response, Biden’s supporters in the White House attempted to downplay the incident.
A White House spokesperson also denied the accusations regarding the nap, stating, “That claim is untrue. As President Biden said on the 4th anniversary of the tragic attack on Abbey Gate and in the letters he wrote to family members after meeting with them in Dover, ‘these 13 Americans — and the many more that were wounded — were patriots in the highest sense’ and ‘we owe them and their families a sacred debt we will never be able to fully repay, but will never cease working to fulfill.’”
