Abbas Kamel, the head of Egyptian intelligence, put forth a fresh proposition regarding the Hamas captives’ release to ISA director Ronen Bar and IDF Chief of Staff Hertzi Halevi during a tripartite meeting.
Ynet reported that, as per the proposal, “in exchange for the release of all captives in two stages over ten weeks, Israel would agree to halt all preparations for entering Rafah, release hundreds of Palestinian terrorists, and commit to a full ceasefire for a year during which steps to promote the establishment of a Palestinian state will be announced.”
Bar and Halevi were briefed on the proposal during the meeting but refrained from providing an immediate response.
Continuing their efforts, an Egyptian delegation currently in Israel is maintaining communication channels. Meanwhile, Hamas is firm on its demand for the release of 50 militants for each abducted soldier and 30 for every civilian.
Minister Betzalel Smotrich, a member of the Cabinet, criticized the Egyptian proposal, stating, “It is essentially a proposal for Israel’s total submission and Hamas’s complete victory. An existential threat to the State of Israel. It will not happen. Period.”
