President-elect Donald Trump on Thursday accused the outgoing administration of President Joe Biden of being responsible for “radical Islamic terrorism,” blaming Biden’s “open border’s policy” in the wake of two deadly incidents on New Year’s Day, one of which occurred at a Trump property in Las Vegas.
Trump’s remarks on Truth Social followed reports of a horrific event in New Orleans, where police say 42-year-old Shamsud-Din Jabbar drove his truck into a crowd of people celebrating the New Year, killing 15 and injuring many others. Jabbar, a Texas native, was reportedly motivated by the extremist group Islamic State, according to police.
“With the Biden ‘Open Border’s Policy’ I said, many times during Rallies, and elsewhere, that Radical Islamic Terrorism, and other forms of violent crime, will become so bad in America that it will become hard to even imagine or believe. That time has come, only worse than ever imagined,” Trump said in his post. “Joe Biden is the WORST PRESIDENT IN THE HISTORY OF AMERICA, A COMPLETE AND TOTAL DISASTER. What he and his group of Election Interfering ‘thugs’ have done to our Country will not soon be forgotten!”
Meanwhile, on the same day, law enforcement identified Matthew Livelsberger from Colorado Springs, Colorado, a 19-year veteran of the U.S. Army, as the driver of a Tesla Cybertruck that crashed into a Trump hotel in Las Vegas and exploded. The truck was reportedly carrying “fireworks-style mortars.” The driver, though not officially confirmed as Livelsberger, was killed in the blast.
On Wednesday, Trump condemned the New Orleans attack as an “act of pure evil” and expressed his full support for the city, vowing that his future administration would stand by them in the wake of the tragedy.
