President Donald Trump revealed that the FBI had returned boxes of classified documents that had been seized from his Mar-a-Lago estate during an investigation into possible misconduct. He stated that he plans to eventually showcase these documents in his presidential library.
Trump explained that the documents, which included highly sensitive materials he had been charged with improperly taking when leaving the White House, had been handed back to him by the Department of Justice, which is now under the leadership of officials he appointed.
“The department just returned the boxes that Deranged Jack Smith made such a big deal about,” Trump shared on his Truth Social platform, referencing the special counsel overseeing the case related to the documents.
“They are being brought down to Florida and will someday be part of the Trump Presidential Library,” he added, though he did not specify whether all the original contents of the boxes had been returned to him.
Trump reiterated his stance that he had “absolutely done nothing wrong” and characterized the case against him as a political witch hunt.
The FBI had conducted a raid on Mar-a-Lago in 2022 to recover the classified materials, which special counsel Jack Smith had accused Trump of improperly keeping at his Florida residence after leaving office the previous year.
