U.S. Special Envoy to the Middle East Steve Witkoff emphasized the importance of setting a firm deadline for the release of the remaining hostages being held in Gaza, asserting that such a measure is crucial for advancing negotiations with Hamas regarding the extension of the ceasefire.
During a discussion with Fox News on Monday, Witkoff sharply criticized Hamas, saying the group has been deliberately evasive in its actions.
“We need deadlines,” he stressed. “That’s what has to happen. People have to understand that we accept a certain behavior pattern.”
He went on to express outrage over the conditions endured by those in captivity. “The way these hostages are being kept is unacceptable. We’ve interviewed all the hostages that have been released – the conditions are deplorable. Many of the hostages come out, they’re sick, they haven’t eaten, they haven’t been given medical care. It’s a terrible proposition for them, so that’s just simply unacceptable.”
Earlier today, Kan Reshet Bet reported that Israeli officials have been in communication with members of the Trump administration to clarify matters concerning discussions between White House Hostage Affairs Envoy Adam Boehler and Hamas regarding the potential release of hostages from Gaza.
During a cabinet meeting on Sunday, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his aides informed ministers that an agreement had been reached ensuring that any discussions involving Boehler and Hamas would take place with full coordination with Israel.
Ministers were assured that “the issue has been solved.”
