President Donald Trump is anticipated to issue an executive order declaring English as the official language of the United States, a historic move in the nation’s 250-year history, as confirmed by The NY Post.
This action would establish the first federal official language in the U.S. and would reverse a policy from former President Bill Clinton, which mandated that federal agencies provide language materials for non-English speakers.
The Wall Street Journal, which initially reported on the upcoming order, shared that the directive emphasizes the importance of unity, operational efficiency, and public participation.
Trump has repeatedly discussed the growing issue of illegal immigration through the southern border, emphasizing the necessity of English as the dominant language in the nation.
“This is a country where we speak English, not Spanish,” Trump stated during a 2015 presidential debate.
He echoed this message during his 2024 campaign, adding, “We have languages coming into our country. We don’t have one instructor in our entire nation that can speak that language.”
“These are languages — it’s the craziest thing — they have languages that nobody in this country has ever heard of. It’s a very horrible thing,” the president remarked.
English remains the most widely spoken language in the United States, and 32 states have officially recognized it as their primary language.
