On Sunday evening, President Donald Trump announced that he had selected Dan Bongino, a prominent conservative figure, to be the next deputy director of the FBI, working alongside Director Kash Patel. Bongino, a former Fox News personality and well-known conservative podcaster, has been a staunch supporter of Trump during the 2024 election campaign. His appointment underscores the close relationship he shares with Patel, as Bongino will now report directly to him in his new role at the FBI, as confirmed by Trump in a post on Truth Social.
Earlier this week, Patel’s nomination to lead the FBI was confirmed by the Senate, officially making him the new director of the agency. Trump’s choice of Bongino for the deputy role signals his intention to install a team of dedicated, hardline loyalists in key positions at the FBI.
Trump took to Truth Social again to highlight a personal detail about Bongino, saying, “Another aspect of the life of Dan Bongino that I think is very important. He has a great wife, Paula, and two wonderful daughters who truly love their dad. What an incredible job Dan will do!!!”
Bongino and Patel will report directly to Attorney General Pam Bondi, who previously served as Trump’s defense lawyer during his first impeachment trial.
In another post, Trump praised Bongino’s background, noting his past service in the Secret Service and his success as a podcasting powerhouse. Trump also mentioned Bongino’s tenure with the New York Police Department. He wrote:
