On Wednesday, President-elect Donald Trump announced that he is selecting Tulsi Gabbard to serve as his upcoming director of national intelligence.
In a statement announcing the new cabinet appointee, Trump said: “As a former Candidate for the Democrat Presidential Nomination, she has broad support in both Parties – She is now a proud Republican!
I know Tulsi will bring the fearless spirit that has defined her illustrious career to our Intelligence Community, championing our Constitutional Rights, and securing Peace through Strength. Tulsi will make us all proud!”
Trump also added that Gabbard “has fought for our Country and the Freedoms of all Americans.”
Gabbard is a veteran and active duty Army reservist, who is serving as a co-chair of the Trump transition team. She rose to prominence in the Democratic primaries of 2016, including a viral moment attacking Kamala Harris, before leaving the Democrat party. Gabbard is considered to be an isolationist, with different views regarding the US’s role in the world than many of Trump’s other appointments.
