On Friday, President Donald Trump reversed the security clearances for several prominent individuals, including former President Joe Biden, Vice President Kamala Harris, and former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, as well as others. This decision was outlined in a memorandum from the White House.
Trump, a Republican, faced off against Clinton in the 2016 presidential race and Harris in the most recent election.
In the memorandum sent to leaders of various executive departments and agencies, Trump explained, “I have determined that it is no longer in the national interest for the following individuals to access classified information,” before listing the names of those affected.
Among those included were Antony Blinken, the former Secretary of State, and Lisa Monaco, the former Deputy Attorney General, as well as “any other member of Joe R. Biden’s family,” according to the memo.
The individuals cited in the memo have played significant roles in various investigations, legal actions, and political challenges against Trump, both during and after his first term. For instance, New York Attorney General Letitia James and Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg were key figures in civil and criminal cases involving the former president in New York.
Former Republican representatives Adam Kinzinger and Liz Cheney were members of the House January 6th Committee, while senior Biden administration officials like Jake Sullivan and Antony Blinken were also mentioned in the document.
