President-elect Donald Trump took to social media on Thursday to lash out at the United States, calling the country a “disaster” and a global “laughing stock” following the deadly terror attack in New Orleans and the explosion of a Tesla Cybertruck outside his Las Vegas hotel.
In an angry post on his Truth Social platform, Trump criticized what he described as the “weak” leadership of the nation, accusing them of failing to protect Americans from “violent scum.” His comments came shortly after authorities announced that both the New Year’s Day incidents were being investigated as possible terror-related events.
“Our country is a disaster, a laughing stock [sic] all over the world,” the 78-year-old fumed.
Trump continued his tirade by accusing the Department of Justice, FBI, and local prosecutors of failing to do their jobs. “The DOJ, FBI, and Democrat state and local prosecutors have not done their job,” he said.
“They are incompetent and corrupt, having spent all of their waking hours unlawfully attacking their political opponent, ME, rather than focusing on protecting Americans from the outside and inside violent SCUM that has infiltrated all aspects of our government, and our Nation itself.”
Although Trump did not directly reference the two deadly incidents, he went on to blame what he called “ineffective and virtually nonexistent leadership” for the country’s current state.
“The USA is breaking down – a violent erosion of Safety, National Security, and Democracy is taking place all across our Nation,” he added.
His comments followed a tragic event earlier in the day, when Shamsud-Din Jabbar, a U.S. Army veteran carrying an ISIS flag, used a pickup truck to run over people celebrating in New Orleans, resulting in 15 fatalities and dozens of injuries.
The FBI has confirmed it is investigating the attack as an act of terrorism, noting that authorities do not believe Jabbar acted alone.
Additionally, a separate investigation is underway regarding the explosion of a Tesla Cybertruck outside the Trump hotel in Las Vegas. Authorities are looking into whether it was also a terror-related incident.
The explosion, which killed the driver and left seven others with minor injuries, revealed fireworks mortars and camp fuel canisters packed into the back of the futuristic truck.
