President Trump issued an executive order aimed at rescuing TikTok, extending the deadline for its parent company to divest from the platform by an additional 90 days.
The 78-year-old former president suggested that the United States should receive a 50% stake in TikTok in exchange for the efforts to preserve the app, though he added that some of that share could come from private entities.
“I do the deal for the—I’m talking about doing the United States, if I do the United States, I think we should get half,” Trump stated.
TikTok’s parent company had previously been given until January 19 to sell the app due to concerns over national security. However, the company failed to comply with the original deadline.
