President Donald Trump stated that the U.S. is collecting $2 billion every day through tariffs.
“We’re taking in almost $2 billion a day in tariffs,” Trump remarked during a signing event at the White House in Washington, D.C., where he also announced changes to coal regulations. “And we’re doing very well in making I call them tailored deals; not off the rack. These are tailored, highly tailored deals.”
Trump continued, “Right now, Japan is flying here to make a deal. South Korea is flying here to make a deal. … We have a lot of countries coming in. They want to make deals. If I told them about making those deals two years ago or three years ago or five years ago, they’d be laughing at us. Now, they’re all signing up.”
Earlier in the day, Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent mentioned that nearly 70 nations have approached the U.S. administration to renegotiate trade agreements.
Trump’s statement was made without elaborating on specifics. Since he took office in January, the president has enforced a wide range of tariffs on various countries.
According to the U.S. Treasury Department’s daily report on deposits and withdrawals from its general account, which handles the federal government’s finances, deposits under “Customs and Certain Excise Taxes” have averaged around $200 million daily for the month.
For the full month of February, the Treasury collected approximately $7.25 billion in customs duties. The Treasury’s budget statement for March, which will be released Thursday, will provide the latest monthly figures.
