During a press event on Friday, President Donald Trump offered his perspective on the definition of a woman, stating it is “somebody that can have a baby under certain circumstances,” and took aim at Democratic support for transgender women in sports, predicting it would hurt them politically: “because they’ll never win another election.”
When prompted by a reporter to explain what he believes constitutes a woman, Trump replied, “Well, it’s sort of easy to answer for me, because a woman is somebody that can have a baby under certain circumstances.”
He continued by noting that women possess “a quality,” and quipped: “A woman is a person who’s much smarter than a man. I’ve always found that a woman is a person that doesn’t give a man even a chance of success, and a woman’s a person that in many cases has been treated very badly.”
The former president criticized the inclusion of transgender women in female sports competitions, calling the situation “just ridiculous and very unfair to women and very demeaning to women.”
He went further, suggesting that Democrats’ support of the issue would backfire politically: “because they’ll never win another election. That’s a big deal.”
Wrapping up his remarks, Trump praised women and pledged his support for them: “Women are basically incredible people who do so much for our country. And we love our women and we’re going to take care of our women.”
