Despite Iranian threats, and despite all of the flight cancellations to Israel, over 150 French Jews made Aliyah on Thursday, moving to Eretz Yisrael.
The large group, including men, women, children, seven babies and one small dog schlepped their bags through extra long security lines at the Charles De Gaulle airport in Paris, before boarding the El Al flight to Israel.
Major American and European airlines have canceled flights to Israel, following Israel’s eliminations of a major Hezbollah terrorist, of Hamas terror leader Ismail Haniyeh and following the threats Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei’s made that Iran will ” take revenge”.
However this group of French Jews was not deterred. The flight included the Glick family, on their way to their new home in Ashdod, who decided to make Aliyah to secure a better future for their two children, saying: “There’s no future for them in France,”
Also on the flight, the Maimon family said they decided to make Aliyah to fulfill their lifelong dream of living in Eretz Yisrael. Previously they had hoped to make the move, but were prevented for economic reasons. Now they are joining their three oldest children who already live in Israel, including their eldest son who has been serving in Gaza.
During the flight, Israeli immigration officials helped the Olim fill out paperwork, and cheers of “Mazal Tov” went up through the plane every time a passenger’s paperwork was finished. As the plane got closer to Israel, the passengers danced in the aisle singing “Am Yisrael chai!”
The new Olim on this flight will be moving into communities in Netanya, Ra’anana, Givat Shmuel, Ashdod and more.
With this flight on Thursday, the number of French Jews that have made Aliyah since the outbreak of the Israel-Hamas War exceeded 1,000. According to the Jewish Agency and Israeli Aliyah Ministry, over 7,000 new applications for Aliyah have been opened in France in 2024, compared to 1,200 the year prior. Since October 7, 24,000 people from around the world have made Aliyah.
