At Wednesday’s House Judiciary Committee hearing, Rep. Eric Swalwell (R-CA) questioned Ben Shapiro about Project 2025.

Conservative commentator Ben Shapiro mocked Democrats for their emphasis on the Heritage Foundation’s Project 2025 during his testimony before the House Judiciary Committee.
While speaking to the committee about the Global Alliance for Responsible Media’s alleged targeting of his company, the Daily Wire, Rep. Eric Swalwell (D-CA) shifted the discussion to Project 2025. Highlighting the renewed attention on the project, Swalwell asked Shapiro if he supported its recommendations.
“Like President Trump, I haven’t looked all that deeply at Project 2025, but it seems that Democrats on this committee are sort of like Peter Pan and Tinker Bell,” Shapiro responded. “If they say Project 2025 enough, their presidential candidate becomes alive again.”
The audience laughed, and Swalwell briefly smiled.
Swalwell then inquired about specific aspects of Project 2025, mentioning his support for reducing bureaucracy and enhancing government efficiency.
“Congrats on becoming a Republican,” Shapiro quipped.
“My parents would be proud,” Swalwell replied with a chuckle.
Shapiro’s testimony followed a committee report indicating that GARM may have unlawfully conspired to suppress conservative voices and media outlets.
Project 2025 has garnered a near-mythic status among Democrats, with concerns over its policy proposals becoming central to President Joe Biden’s 2024 campaign. The intense criticism of the Heritage Foundation’s project prompted former President Donald Trump to publicly distance himself from it last week.
On Tuesday, the group clarified its proposals, countering claims that it was suggesting anything extreme.
