CBS’ 60 Minutes broadcast the full interview on Sunday night with Yarden Bibas, a survivor of captivity whose family was brutally murdered after being abducted from their home in Kibbutz Nir Oz during the October 7, 2023, terror attack.
During the conversation with journalist Lesley Stahl, Bibas relived the trauma, sharing the chilling and dehumanizing comments made by those who held him hostage.
“[Shiri and the kids] were murdered in cold blood, bare hands,” Bibas explained. “They used to tell me—‘Oh, doesn’t matter. You’ll get a new wife. Get new kids. Better wife. Better kids.’”
Stahl, clearly taken aback, asked in disbelief, “They said that to you?”
“Yeah, many times,” Yarden replied.
Once the temporary ceasefire fell apart and military operations resumed, Bibas took action. He penned a letter addressed to Prime Minister bIBI Netanyahu, imploring him to bring the war to a stop. His plea was read aloud in the Knesset.
“Yeah, because we still have people there,” Bibas said, explaining the motivation behind his appeal. “We can’t keep fighting. There are still people who need to come home.”
When Stahl posed the question of whether continuing the offensive might lead to additional hostage releases, Bibas didn’t hesitate in his reply:“No.”
He also spoke of his lifelong friend, David Cunio, who is still in captivity in Gaza. David, along with his wife Sharon and their daughters, was abducted on October 7. Sharon and the girls were released as part of a November 2023 agreement—but David remains missing.
“This is David,” Bibas said, showing a picture. “I know him from first grade. And this is his younger brother, Ariel… They’re both still in captivity. And… I don’t know if they’ve been given enough food, enough water. Especially now, with the war back on.”
Bibas grew more emotional as he emphasized the agony of the situation.
“Sharon must not lose her husband,” he continued. “This is the hardest thing I have to move with in my life, and David is not with me. I lost my wife and kids. Sharon must not lose her husband.”
Earlier in the day, before the full interview aired, a preview clip circulated featuring Bibas being asked whether he had a message for US President Donald Trump. His response was clear:
“Please stop the war and help bring all the hostages back.”
When asked if he believed Trump could make a difference, Bibas gave an emphatic answer:“I know he can help. I’m here because of Trump.”
