The White House acknowledged that President Donald Trump and King Abdullah II of Jordan have differing opinions regarding Trump’s proposal to relocate Gazans as part of a broader US strategy for the region.
White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt addressed the media, confirming that while King Abdullah opposes the relocation idea, Trump continues to advocate for moving Palestinians from Gaza to neighboring countries, including Jordan.
“The king would prefer that the Palestinians stay in place with the additional land to be used for new development, which would greatly create jobs at levels never seen before. The president feels it would be much better and more majestic if these Palestinians could be moved to safer areas,” Leavitt explained.
Leavitt reaffirmed Trump’s “wholehearted” commitment to achieving peace in the Middle East and emphasized his call for Arab partners to create a regional peace plan.
Despite their differences, Leavitt described Trump’s meeting with King Abdullah on Tuesday as “wonderful,” noting their in-depth discussions regarding Gaza’s future. She also recognized Jordan’s pledge to admit 2,000 sick Gazan children for medical treatment, which Trump called a “beautiful gesture.”
“The administration continues to work with our Arab partners in the region. We stand closely with our ally Israel, and the president has presented this big, new bold idea to secure peace in the Middle East, and he’s not going to waiver from that,” Leavitt said.
After his meeting at the White House on Tuesday, King Abdullah reiterated the unified stance of Arab nations against the relocation proposal.
On X, the Jordanian king described his conversation with Trump as “constructive” and emphasized the strong and lasting relationship between Jordan and the United States.
“I reiterated Jordan’s steadfast position against the displacement of Palestinians in Gaza and the West Bank. This is the unified Arab position. Rebuilding Gaza without displacing the Palestinians and addressing the dire humanitarian situation should be the priority for all,” he posted.
King Abdullah stressed that securing a just peace through a two-state solution is crucial for maintaining stability in the region.
