At the Seminar Hayoshon in Yerushalayim, a remarkable scene unfolded as students took off their shoes and walked barefoot upon discovering that their TOMS footwear contained shatnez.
The event unfolded when one student alerted her peers about the presence of shatnez in her shoes. This prompted Rav Yisroel Levin, the principal, to make an announcement over the public address system. In no time, countless students followed suit, removing their shoes to adhere to the halachic guidelines and opting to walk without them.
Rabbi Levin shared his pride regarding the swift and resolute reaction of the students.
“It was touching to see the girls proudly remove their shoes without a second thought once they heard about the prohibition,” Rabbi Levin remarked, illustrating how the students discarded their shoes and quickly organized alternative options, including makeshift footwear crafted from cardboard.
Some girls even chose to walk home without their shoes. Others sought out borrowed footwear from friends or purchased thick socks for added comfort.
