The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) recently uncovered that the Biden administration allocated $2 billion to a climate organization with connections to Stacey Abrams, the former Democratic gubernatorial candidate from Georgia who is a staunch supporter of President Joe Biden.
The funds were directed to Power Forward Communities, a nonprofit group associated with several left-leaning organizations that was founded by Abrams. Abrams has expressed her excitement about being involved with this initiative, according to a report from the Washington Free Beacon on Wednesday.
The money was set aside at Citibank, an external financial institution, before Biden left office. It is part of a larger $20 billion fund allocated to the EPA through the Inflation Reduction Act, intended for distribution to climate-related organizations.
EPA Administrator Lee Zeldin voiced his concern, stating, “It’s extremely concerning that an organization that reported just $100 in revenue in 2023 was chosen to receive $2 billion,” referring to the latest tax filings of Power Forward Communities. “That’s 20 million times the organization’s reported revenue.”
Zeldin also disclosed last week that he had discovered the $20 billion that had been set aside by EPA officials under the previous administration. This move appeared to be an attempt to prevent the Trump administration from reclaiming the funds while obscuring which organizations would ultimately receive the money, including Power Forward Communities and seven other groups.
At the time, Zeldin expressed worry that this sum could end up funding “far-left activist groups” without any federal oversight, potentially benefiting groups with strong connections to the Biden administration.
“I made a commitment to members of Congress and to the American people to be a good steward of tax dollars and I’ve wasted no time in keeping my word,” Zeldin stated to the Washington Free Beacon. “When we learned about the Biden Administration’s scheme to quickly park $20 billion outside the agency, we suspected that some organizations were created out of thin air just to take advantage of this.”
“As we continue to learn more about where some of this money went, it is even more apparent how far-reaching and widely accepted this waste and abuse has been,” Zeldin continued.
Abrams has been an outspoken supporter of Biden’s green energy policies. In July, amid rising calls for Biden to step down from the presidential race, she wrote an op-ed in the Atlanta Journal-Constitution asserting that the Democratic Party’s path to victory depended on supporting Biden.
“It’s time to stop the Joe Biden doom loop,” she tweeted in the same month.
Power Forward Communities received its grant the month following Abrams’ op-ed.
The group stated in August 2024 that the $2 billion grant would allow for the affordable decarbonization of homes and apartments across the U.S., with an emphasis on supporting low-income and disadvantaged communities, with funds expected to begin flowing into homes by early 2025.
Zeldin, who has pledged to find ways to recover the funds from Citibank, referred to “Stacey Abrams’ Power Forward Communities” as a “pass-through entity for Biden EPA’s $20 billion ‘gold bar’ scheme” in a post on X Wednesday night.
