Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has criticized Israel for its reluctance to provide Ukraine with significant military aid following Russia’s 2022 invasion but commended Israel for its recent airstrikes targeting Iranian missile facilities supplying Russia.
In an interview with Fox News foreign correspondent Trey Yingst, Zelenskyy remarked, “We wanted from the very beginning of full-scale war, I think that Israel made a mistake to my mind. On the political level, not on people, because we always had a very good connection with society. On the political level, when Putin occupied us and full-scale war began, I asked Israel’s leaders to help us and support, but they’ve been afraid of Putin.”
Zelenskyy elaborated that his primary request to Israel was assistance in bolstering Ukraine’s air defense capabilities.
Earlier in the discussion, Zelenskyy acknowledged Israel’s October 26 strike on Iranian military infrastructure. This action, carried out in response to Iran launching 181 ballistic missiles at Israel earlier that month, also benefits Ukraine. By disrupting Iranian missile production, Israel indirectly impedes Iran’s ability to supply Russia with missiles for use in its ongoing war against Ukraine.
