Amazon broke ground on a new airport, expected to open in 2021, that will help Amazon expand on its shipping options.
Amazon agreed to a 50-year lease for more than 900 acres of property from Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport in 2017. This space is close to the size of the global hubs of top cargo airlines, according to the Associated Press.
Amazon plans to take greater control of its shipping process and become less reliant on carriers such as UPS, FedEx, or the US Postal Service as it seeks to cut costs and speed up delivery times. This will be especially pertinent to its plans of one-day shipping for Prime members.

President Donald Trump on Tuesday denied a New York Times report that US officials were discussing a military plan to send up to 120,000 troops to the Middle East to counter any attack or nuclear weapons acceleration by Iran.
“I think it’s fake news, OK? Now, would I do that? Absolutely. But we have not planned for that. Hopefully we’re not going to have to plan for that. And if we did that, we’d send a hell of a lot more troops than that,” Trump told reporters at the White House.
The Times reported that Acting Defense Secretary Patrick Shanahan presented an updated plan last week in a meeting of top national security aides that envisions sending as many as 120,000 American troops to the region if Iran attacks US forces or accelerates work on its nuclear weapons.

New York University chaplain Rabbi Yehuda Sarna will be the first chief rabbi of the Jewish community in the United Arab Emirates, announced the international affairs director for the Anti-Defamation League on Tuesday.
“It’s a very exciting and daunting challenge to try to build the community in such a way that is not only sustainable and enriching for the people who are members of it, but also it serves the function of engaging with the Muslim world in that part of the world,” said Sarna, who will remain at NYU and travel to the UAE four times annually in an unpaid capacity.
A few years ago, a new shul opened and has since been operating without a rabbi.

On April 11, the Israeli nonprofit SpaceIL tried to land a small robot on the surface of the moon. But an errant software command apparently caused the lander’s main engine to shut off and slam into the moon. Now new before-and-after pictures taken around April 22 and released on Wednesday from NASA reveal the results of Beresheet’s high-speed crash.
“While the spacecraft did land, it first touched the surface about 1,000 meters per second [2,200 mph] faster than intended,” Mark Robinson, a lunar researcher at NASA, said in a blog post about the images.
That speed is roughly twice as fast as a bullet shot from a gun. Robinson added that Beresheet came down at a sharp angle, and disintegrated upon impact, leaving a sizable scar on the moon.

An Israeli man has apologized for spitting at Polish Ambassador to Israel Marek Magierowski.
“I would like to express my apologies,” said Arik Lederman, who was arrested for spitting at the ambassador, in a statement. “My family experienced the Holocaust, and my appeal to the embassy was on the matter of restitution of property.”
Lederman accused a security guard at the Polish embassy for calling him a zhid, a disparaging label for a Jew, causing his eruption. He has requested to apologize to the ambassador in person, adding that he didn’t know the person he spat at was him.
“I hope that with this, the incident will come to an end and will be kept in proportion,” he said.

The Trump administration and Polish officials have been in talks for some time to establish a new permanent U.S. military base in the country to counter threats posed by Russia and Iranian regime assets known to have plotted terror attacks in the region.
However, many members of Congress and top Jewish communal officials behind the scenes have been lobbying the Trump administration and Secretary of State Mike Pompeo to demand Poland resolve Holocaust-era claims before the United States agrees to host a permanent military base in the country

Attorney General William Barr joked with Speaker Nancy Pelosi about Democrats’ calls for his arrest, asking the California Democrat whether she brought handcuffs to an event on the West Front of the U.S. Capitol on Wednesday morning, one week after the House Judiciary Committee voted to hold Barr in contempt over subpoenas related to the Mueller report.
“As those seated on the platform waited for the president’s arrival in an adjacent tent,” an onlooker described, “Attorney General Barr approached Speaker Pelosi, shook her hand and said loudly, ‘Madam Speaker, did you bring your handcuffs?'”
