Likud Knesset members railed against Yisrael Beiteinu chairman Avigor Lieberman in Israeli media on Thursday morning, hours after his refusal to join Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s coalition forced Israel into new elections next September.
“This is one of the biggest farces in politics” Likud MK Miki Zohar said in an interview with Israel’s Army Radio. He warned that Lieberman “will pay the price in the end.”
On Kan Bet radio, Likud MK Tourism Minister Yariv Levin said Lieberman had demanded three ministers and five portfolios as the price for his entry into the coalition.
“[Lieberman] decided that he was not interested in entering the government, so he set conditions that were clearly impossible,” said Levin.

A Maryland man who set himself on fire on the White House Ellipse on Wednesday afternoon has died, according to the U.S. Park Police.
The incident occurred about 12:20 p.m. near 15th Street NW and Constitution Avenue NW.
The man was taken to a hospital Wednesday and was in critical condition. On Thursday morning, Park Police officials said he had died.
Officials identified the man as Arnav Gupta.
Authorities are trying to identify the accelerant that was used and determine whether the man has a car parked in the area.
D.C. Police have taken over the investigation. The Park Police initially assumed jurisdiction because the Ellipse is a national park.

Heights

In the Torah, there are several references to mountains that are central to Yiddishkeit. The first is Har Hamoriah, which Avrohom saw from the distance as he approached it to offer his son Yitzchok as an akeidah, following the word of Hashem. Although he saw the mountain and recognized it as his destination, those who had journeyed with him did not see it. Those belonging to the am hadomeh lechamor were blind to the hallowed peak destined to play a leading role in Yahadus until this very day.

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi said Wednesday it “breaks my heart” to be introduced as the highest-ranking woman because she wishes there were a woman president.
“The one thing that breaks my heart is when they introduce me as the highest-ranking woman I keep thinking ‘no it wasn’t supposed to be this way, we were supposed to have a woman president,’” she said at the Commonwealth Club of California, a public affairs forum.
“Anyway, that may sound political to some of you,” she added.

After completing an investigation of the stabbing and shooting attack near the Ariel Junction back in March in which a soldier and a rabbi were killed, the Israeli army revealed “various operational forces related to the operational discipline of the force.”
Several soldiers were removed from their combat positions and both the battalion and company commanders were given command notes on their handling of the situation.
The debriefing pointed to activities that failed to adequately prepare the soldiers for the mission, while freshly minted Chief of Staff Aviv Kochavi also indicated that the force operated defectively during the event itself, failing to perform as expected of combat soldiers at the scene of an attack.

The International Fellowship of Christians and Jews has mobilized to raise more than 1 million shekels (about $275,000) in emergency assistance for residents of moshav Mevo Modi’im, a small agricultural community west of Jerusalem near the city of Modi’in. The moshav sustained a massive fire on May 23 that destroyed at least 40 out of the community’s 50 homes.
From that, the Fellowship will be providing up to $5,000 in assistance for each family in Mevo Modi’im.
