An Arab attempted to stab a Border Police officer at a security check post by Mearas Hamachpeila early Monday afternoon. During the inspection, the Arab put on his jacket which raised the suspicion of the officer on duty who prepared to carry out a more thorough inspection on him. Suddenly the Arab pulled a knife from his jacket and attacked the police officer with it. Fortunately, the border police officer’s protective vest resulted in the knife breaking during the assault. Border Police officers overcame the Arab without drawing fire and the incident ended without injuries. The 19-year-old Arab, a resident of the village of Ramadin, was arrested and transferred to security forces for interrogation.

The Palestinian prime minister lashed out Sunday at U.S. President Donald Trump’s proposal to end the Mideast conflict, saying it would be “buried very soon.” Speaking at the Munich Security Conference, Mohammad Shtayyeh said the U.S. plan was “no more than a memo of understanding between (Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin) Netanyahu and Trump.” Shtayyeh criticized the fact that the proposal would leave a future Palestinian state fragmented and with “no sovereignty,” allowing Israel to annex large parts of the West Bank.

By Monet Binder, Esq. Often, when I work with children who have elderly parents, or the senior individuals themselves, I find them struggling with long term care planning concepts, including Medicare and Medicaid.  Defining the Concepts  Most people have a difficult time with long term care planning concepts, including Medicare and Medicaid, and don’t understand how it all works. Some people mistakenly believe that Medicare pays for long term care and others believe they could never qualify for Medicaid because of the amount of their belongings. Medicare is actually a federal program that provides health coverage if you are 65 or older, or if you are under 65 and have a disability, and it is not based on your income.

Former Tiveria mayor Ron Kobi’s ouster from his position was finalized on Monday when the Supreme Court rejected the appeal he filed against the decision of  Likud Minister Ze’ev Elkin to remove Kobi from office last month due to his failure to approve a budget for Tiveria over a year after he was elected as mayor. Following the decision, Kobi filed an appeal to the Supreme Court claiming that “a witch-hunt is being carried out here led by [Interior Minister] Aryeh Deri. Unfortunately, we have a weak prime minister who is also a big liar. He promised to stop Aryeh Deri but he’s afraid of him and Aryeh Deri controls Tiveria.

The number of floors to be removed from the 52-story tower is not yet known, but the newspaper said it could be 20 or more. A lawyer representing the project said the developers would appeal the Feb. 13 decision.

(by Rabbi Yair Hoffman for 5TJT.com) Yesterday, Yeshiva World News reported that Naama Issachar, the Israeli citizen imprisoned in Russia for 10 months, continues to light Shabbos candles every week, a practice she began in the Russian prison. In fact, jast Friday, Miss Issachar lit Shabbos candles in her home in Rechovot and sent a picture to Rabbi Shea Deitsch, the heroic Chabad shaliach in Moscow who supported the Issachar family from the time Naama was arrested last Erev Pesach. “It’s almost a year since we met,” Issachar wrote to Rabbi Deitsch. “I haven’t forgotten – lighting the candles for Shabbos.” The Chofetz Chaim once said that Shabbos observance is the key to blessing.  He pointed to the words of the lecha dodi – “ki hi mekor habracha” to make this point.
