El Al announced on Thursday that it is resuming passenger flights from October 1 and cargo flights from September 21, Army Radio reported. Yeshivah student Eli Rozenberg, 27, acquired 42.89% of El Al with a $150 million offering at the company’s public offering on Wednesday through his newly formed Kanfei Nesharim company, replacing Tami Moses-Borovitz as the main shareholder through her family’s company Knafaim Holdings Ltd. The Israeli government bought $30 million worth of shares and will have a 12%-15% stake in the company. Rozenberg turned out to be the only bidder at the offering following Meir Gurvitz’s decision to drop out of the race due to the Finance Ministry’s refusal of a private placement followed by Russian-Israeli businessman David Sapir‘s decision to drop out as well.

The Jewish community in South Africa is preparing for Yom Tov. Currently, all shuls in the country are open but minyanim are limited to 50 mispallelim. The heads of the kehilla and Beis Din in Johannesburg, in cooperation with medical professionals, are calling on gabbaim to ensure that Rosh Hashanah tefillos do not last longer than two hours, B’Chadrei Chareidim reported. Several shuls have decided to daven quickly and skip piyutim and other shuls are holding a long break before Mussaf. South Africa has experienced a serious coronavirus outbreak, recording 653,444 cases and 15,705 deaths. It imposed one of the world’s earliest and strictest lockdowns in March but has recently begun easing restrictions as cases drop. (YWN Israel Desk – Jerusalem)

The frum community in Melbourne is facing an unprecedented situation not seen since World War II, a Rosh Hashanah without minyanim, a shuttered shul, and brand-new shul furniture which will remain unused. As YWN reported earlier this week, the frum community in Melbourne, which is located in the state of Victoria – currently under strict health regulations due to a coronavirus outbreak – wrote a letter to the local authorities requesting a permit to daven in minyanim for Rosh Hashanah in accordance with social distancing regulations. Their request was not approved. The restrictions preclude gatherings of even ten people and anyone who violates the regulations are subject to huge fines of thousands of dollars.

Our hearts are torn! Our dear friend, father, & husband MOTTY was ripped away from us so young at the age of 34 R”L. Our Dear Motty was everyone’s best friend, everyone’s open ear, always had a good word to say. He was a dedicated father and a committed community member. He served the Buffalo NY Chabad Shul like a Soldier. He walked 2 hours to shul every Shabbos only to strengthen all the people that came to pray. Click to donate! He always had kind words to offer and his smiles always healed everyone around him. The world lost a real righteous man, such a great father to 5 beautiful young children, a dedicated husband & friend. Our dear Motty was battling Lymphoma for the last half year and was ripped away from us when his body succumbed to the terrible virus.

The cost to subsidize one family is $250. Please help so we can subsidize 400 families this Yom Tov season. Sukkos. Zeman Simchaseinu. It’s one of the most joyous times of the year, anticipated by one and all, young and old. But this year, it will be different. For the first time in history, due to the current Covid-19 restrictions, Yerushalayim will be devoid of the tens of thousands of guests who arrive each year to celebrate the grand Yom Tov of Sukkos in the Holy City. There’s no Sukkos like Sukkos in Yerushalayim. The feelings of festivity are almost tangible. Prior to the Yom Tov, the streets are filled with vendors selling daled minim and all sorts of Yom Tov paraphernalia.

An Israeli court sentenced a young man on Wednesday to 3 1/2 years in prison for his role in the 2015 arson attack that killed a Palestinian toddler and his parents in the West Bank village of Duma. The unidentified youth, who was a minor at the time of the attack, was found guilty last year of membership in a terrorist organization and involvement in a racially motivated crime. It was the second sentencing this week by the Lod District Court in the deadly 2015 Duma arson attack. On Monday, the court handed Amiram Ben-Uliel, a Jewish settler, four life sentences for the killing of 18-month-old Ali Dawabsheh in a firebomb attack on the family’s home. The toddler’s mother, Riham, and father, Saad, later died of their wounds.
