By Rabbi Yair Hoffman for 5tjt.com It happens more often then we think.  In statistics that this author has kept, it happens on average between 1% and 2% of the time.  However, it can also happen almost ten percent of the time as well. A mistake is made in the Kesuvah itself at the wedding.  A frantic call is made to a Posaik:  “We have no other Kesuvah – what should we do?” [The reader may wish to print this in case of emergencies]. At times, the Posaik cannot be reached, in which case calls are made to Posaik after Posaik. Sometimes, when the Posaik can be reached, he may suggest that the Kesuvah be re-written by hand.   All this is often done behind closed doors and can often lead to delays at the wedding. There is, however,  another possibility, of which many Rabbonim are unaware.

Six years after the kidnapping and murder of three Israeli teenagers, their families are suing Hamas for NIS 520 million ($155 million). The kidnapping and murder of Naftali Frankel, Gilad Shaar and Eyal Yifrach by Hamas terrorists six years ago resulted in the 2014 Gaza war, Operation Protective Edge, which ended with 67 IDF soldiers dead. The goal of the lawsuit, filed by the Shurat HaDin legal organization at the Jerusalem District Court on Sunday, is to halt the transfer of money from the Palestinian Authority to Hamas. According to a study conducted for the prosecution by Lt.-Col.

United Airlines says it listened to customers and is dropping an unpopular $200 fee for most people who change a ticket for travel within the United States. “When we hear from customers about where we can improve, getting rid of fees is often the top request,” United CEO Scott Kirby said in a video posted Sunday. United’s move will put pressure on American Airlines and Delta Air Lines to drop their change fees, also $200 on domestic travel. United said that it eliminated change fees for people who buy a standard or premium economy ticket for U.S. travel. United also said that it will extend a broad waiver of change fees — including for international travel — through Dec. 31.

An intense heatwave in Israel that began on Friday intensified on Sunday, with hot and dry “sharav” like conditions in the mountains and inland with increased humidity on the coastal plain. Israel’s Health Ministry warned Israelis to avoid exposure to the heat as much as possible, drink enough water and stay in air-conditioned places. However, it added that wearing face masks will continue to remain mandatory throughout the heatwave. The heatwave is forecast to last the entire week.

“It was the day of my wedding, and my father and sisters and I were almost ready to leave for the hall. Down the hallway I heard my sister scream, and saw that my father was on the floor. He had had a heart attack.  We lost him that day. The wedding was cancelled, of course, and we went straight into shiva. Dad had raised us alone after Mom passed away, and we were lost as to what to do next. For a full year, I worked as a nurse to save up money to re-make the wedding. We sold everything we had before to help take care of my siblings, and repay our debts. I am starting from scratch.” Tamar, 23*   Nearly 40 young men & women with stories comparable to “Tamar”’s are getting married this month, with the support of Kupat Ha’Ir’s Elul orphan wedding campaign.

Tens of thousands of demonstrators rallied Sunday in the Belarusian capital of Minsk to begin the fourth week of daily protests demanding that the country’s authoritarian president resign. The protests began after an Aug. 9 presidential election that protesters say was rigged but that election officials say gave President Alexander Lukashenko a sixth term in office. Protesters initially tried to gather at Independence Square in Minsk, but barriers and riot police blocked it off. They then streamed down one of the capital’s main avenues, past hulking olive-green prisoner transport vehicles. Police detained some marchers and forced them into the transports. Police said 125 people were arrested, but Ales Bilyatsky of the Viasna human rights organization said more than 200 were detained.

The Chabad House of Southwest Portland Oregon has experienced 2 fires in one week.  The first fire occurred on Friday night August 14 at approximately 10:30 PM, and the second one happened on August 19 at around 3:00 AM. Rabbi Moshe Wilhelm, Rabbi Motti Wilhelm, and Rabbi Chayim Mishulovim have been devoutly servicing the Chabad house for 36 years with sincere dedication, and are now looking to rebuild this makom kadosh from its ruins. CLICK HERE TO DONATE As the investigation of these fires moves forward, it is becoming clear that this fire was human caused. The chances of this being an arson act is highly probable because after the first fire, the electric and gas were shut off by the electric and gas companies so it is unlikely that the fires started on their own.
