Imagine a Jew who has never heard of Shavuos. There are thousands in New York City alone. This reality is shattering for the future of the Jewish people. Enter Emet Outreach. For the past 16 years, this dynamic, Queens-based kiruv organization has been on the spiritual frontlines — helping unaffiliated Jews reconnect with Judaism, embrace Torah and mitzvos and ultimately build strong Jewish families. Emet offers multifaceted programming to guide and support individuals through every stage of their religious journey. Initiatives start at the college level and continue with young professionals and young couples.  Right now, Emet is in the final stretch of a critical Charidy campaign to continue their life-changing, transformative work.

First came a high fever, drenching sweats and muscle aches. Then, almost a month later, a weird numbness that spread down the right side of her body. Darlene Gildersleeve thought she had recovered from COVID-19. Doctors said she just needed rest. And for several days, no one suspected her worsening symptoms were related — until a May 4 video call, when her physician heard her slurred speech and consulted a specialist. “You’ve had two strokes,” a neurologist told her at the hospital. The Hopkinton, New Hampshire, mother of three is only 43. Blood clots that can cause strokes, heart attacks and dangerous blockages in the legs and lungs are increasingly being found in COVID-19 patients, including some children.

IDF Sgt. Shadi Ibrahim, a Druze IDF combat soldier in Brigade 401, who was badly injured a week and a half ago in a ramming attack near Chevron, was released from the ICU on Monday. Unfortunately, Ibrahim, 21, had to have his leg amputated due to his serious injuries. He also had numerous other surgeries. But Ibrahim is not letting the loss of his leg daunt him, saying when he woke up in the hospital: “I want to go back to my soldiers…nothing will break me.” He recorded a video message from his hospital bed, thanking everyone who sent him encouraging messages: הלוחם שאדי איברהים שנפצע בשבוע שעבר בפיגוע הדריסה מדבר מבית החולים ואומר שהוא בסדר, מודה לכל מי ששלח לו הודעות ודואגים לו, גאים בך איברהים היקרומאחלים לך רפואה שלימה ❗

The trading floor of the New York Stock exchange reopened Tuesday for the first time in two months and the state legislature was set to reconvene as the state relaxed more restrictions aimed at curbing the spread of the coronavirus. Traders cheered as Gov. Andrew Cuomo rang the opening bell of the Stock Exchange, which had been closed since March when the state shut down in the face of the virus. Under rules put in place to prevent a resurgence, traders will be required to wear masks and stay 6 feet apart. Anyone entering the Exchange will be asked to avoid public transportation. The legislature will be in session Tuesday for the first time since the coronavirus forced lawmakers home after they passed the state budget in April.

The Baltimore Police Department is investigating a disturbing incident that occurred on Tuesday morning on Yeshiva Lane, when a man attempted to run over a senior staff member at Yeshiva Ner Yisroel with a vehicle. Sources tell YWN that at around 7:45AM, a staff member had just gotten into his car outside the Yeshiva, when a man deliberately rammed his vehicle into his car. The man managed to get out of his car and run inside the Yeshiva building. The suspect then continued his rampage, driving at a high-rate of speed and began chasing another senior staff member of the high school with his vehicle. Eyewitnesses say that he missed striking him by inches, as the suspect drove at a high rate of speed. Police responded in seconds, and managed to apprehend him and take him into custody.

When the Coronavirus hit New York – almost without warning – Jewish day schools, Yeshivos and Mesivtos had to scramble to find a solution for schooling kids from home while keeping them engaged – without free access to the internet. Joe Biden made his first in-person appearance in more than two months on Monday as he marked Memorial Day by laying a wreath at a veterans park near his Delaware home. Since abruptly canceling a March 10 rally in Cleveland at the onset of the coronavirus pandemic, the presumptive Democratic presidential nominee has waged much of his campaign from his home in Wilmington. When Biden emerged on Monday, he wore a face mask, in contrast to President Donald Trump, who has refused to cover his face in public as health officials suggest. Biden and his wife, Jill, laid a wreath of white flowers tied with a white bow, and bowed their heads in silence at the park. He saluted. “Never forget the sacrifices that these men and women made,” he said after.
