Yosef Chaim Machlouf, a Chareidi resident of Givat Ze’ev, saw a bag on the street of his neighborhood a few days ago. He picked it up and to his suprise, found NIS 40,000 worth of cash inside as well as several checks. Machlouf tracked down the owner, an Arab from Gilo, through the name on the checks. Although according to halacha, he wasn’t mechuyav to return the aveidah, Machlouf decided to make a kiddush Hashem and return the money. In an interview on Kol Chai Radio, he spoke about what motivated him to return the money: “According to halacha, not only wasn’t I required to return the package, but it’s even forbidden unless it will cause a kiddush Hashem – then it’s muttar.

by Rabbi Yair Hoffman for 5TJT.com Whenever any day of Yom Tov comes out on a Friday – an Eruv Tavshilin must be made before the Yom Tov begins.  WHAT IS AN ERUV TAVSHILIN? An Eruv Tavshilim is a Rabbinic device – that involves 3 things: a baked item a cooked item and a special formula to recite. This Rabbinic device allows one to “continue preparing and cooking” for Shabbos on Yom Tov. In other words, through the Eruv Tavshilin, one actually begins the Shabbos preparations on the day before Yom Tov.  The Malachos performed on the Yom Tov for Shabbos are considered to be a continuation of these preparations. (Rema O.C. 527:1).

The battle of Israel Police against organized crime in Israel took a dramatic turn early Monday morning when over 60 suspected criminals were arrested, the culmination of a year-long secret operation against illegal drugs, weapons and explosive devices. Some of the detainees, mostly Arabs but also Jews, are senior figures in criminal organizations operating in the Jerusalem and Lachish areas. About a year ago, Israel Police recruited an influential senior Arab criminal to become a secret agent among the influential echelon of dealers of illegal weapons, explosive devices and drugs.

No one can forget The Siyum. Though it took place in a very different pre-Corona era, its voices and spirit reverberate even throughout its stormy aftermath. 100,000 Jews gathering together is something that’s hard to imagine now- but we can relive the echoes of that resounding unity. What we now lack in physical proximity, we compensate with the greatest uniting force of every Jew: Ki Heim Chayeinu. Day by quarantined day, our learning keeps our focus from flagging even in these unthinkable times. In time for Kabbalas Hatorah, relive the magic of the Siyum! We were once again hosted by Rabbi Avi Schnall, New Jersey Director for Agudas Yisroel of America, and virtual event favorite Rabbi Elchanan Schwarz, LCSW.

The COVID-19 crisis has highlighted the need to get children excited about learning Torah. Now that the trappings of the traditional classrooms have disappeared, teachers and parents are working overtime to give kids a reason to tune in and stay interested.    Enter Torah Live, an educational platform that engages both children and adults with videos on important topics such as Power of Speech, Emunah & Tefillah and Anger.    Just ahead of Shavuos, Torah Live has released a new animated video, Learning Torah Matters, featuring the adorable Rabbi Siddur.   Children often ask, “Why do I need to learn this?” They may find it difficult to relate to certain parts of the Torah and understand how they are relevant in our modern lives.

There is a wonderful mother of three who is in desperate need of help. Two of her children attend a local Orthodox day school in Los Angeles and the oldest is a graduate of Valley Torah High School. PLEASE HELP HER! The mother has custody of the children and is getting no support whatsoever from the ex-husband. There is a plan in place to relocate the family where they can get a fresh start and the cost of living is much more manageable. There are a number of Rabbis, educators, and therapists who are very familiar with the situation and can vouch for the urgency of the matter and the magnitude of the mitzvah. If we can raise $50,000, we can set this family on a solid foundation for success and allow them to be self-sufficient moving forward. The time to act is now.

Three teachers from the Hebrew Gymnasium school in the Rechavia neighborhood of Jerusalem tested positive for the coronavirus on Thursday morning. On Wednesday, three students at the school tested positive for the virus. The students were tested while in self-quarantine after a 7th-grade student at the school was diagnosed with the virus on Tuesday, sending 60 students and nine teachers into isolation. The school is reportedly shutting down for the time being, only weeks after it reopened. All the students and staff members will be tested for the coronavirus.
