The following are the latest updates from New York State / NYC: Gov. Cuomo said at least 337 people died from coronavirus across the state yesterday. He added that deaths are “on the decline” but “still tragically high.” The hospitalization rate is flat — but he’d prefer to see it decline. Of the 7,500 people tested statewide for antibodies against coronavirus, 14.9% have tested positive. Five days ago, 13.9% had tested positive. Statistically, the one point difference lies in the margin of error, Cuomo said. Some parts of the state may begin to “unpause” after May 15. “But in some parts of the state, some regions, you could make the case that we should unpause on May 15,” he said.

The Trump administration is reviewing proposed new guidelines for how restaurants, schools, churches and businesses can safely reopen as states look to gradually lift their coronavirus restrictions. The draft guidance from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has been sent to Washington but still could be revised before being released to the public. The recommendations were obtained from a federal official who was not authorized to release them publicly. The guidelines include suggestions such as closing break rooms at offices, using disposable menus in restaurants and having students eat lunch in their classrooms.

In an unprecedented move, New York has canceled its Democratic presidential primary that was scheduled for June 23 amid the coronavirus pandemic. The Democratic members of the State’s Board of Elections voted Monday to nix the primary. New York will still hold its congressional and state-level primaries on June 23. Commissioner Andrew Spano said he had pondered at length, reaching a decision just Monday morning. He said he worried about potentially forcing voters and poll workers to choose between their democratic duty and their health.

Police on Saturday arrested a woman they say stole an NYPD lieutenant’s police vehicle in Harlem. Officials say at approximately 11:15 p.m., the lieutenant got out of his unmarked car at Madison Avenue and E 132nd Street and began to run after a suspect in a gun case. The lieutenant left his keys in the car during the chase when 28-year-old Kassie Moses then took his vehicle for a ride, heading to the Madison Avenue Bridge. Moses struck another NYPD vehicle driven by a captain according to the New York Post, then got stuck in traffic where officials tracked her down. Police arrested Moses and charged her with grand larceny of an automobile, grand larceny, criminal possession of stolen property, reckless endangerment and unauthorized use of a vehicle. She lived by her daughter in Lakewood the last years of her life. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi endorsed Joe Biden’s presidential bid Monday, expanding the list of high-profile Democrats who’ve coalesced around the former vice president. The California Democrat, in video remarks, said Biden offers “hope and courage, values, authenticity and integrity.” She said he’d be a “voice of reason and resilience” amid the coronavirus pandemic. Pelosi also cited Biden’s work as President Barack Obama’s vice president during the 2010 health care overhaul and the economic recovery acts after the 2008 financial collapse. Her support wasn’t unexpected now that Biden is the presumptive Democratic nominee to take on President Donald Trump in November.
