US intelligence officials say that the Hezbollah terror group in Lebanon, which was significantly compromised militarily by Israel in the recent war, is already engaged in rehabilitating its forces and replenishing its weapons caches, Reuters reported. The officials said that Hezbollah still poses a long-term threat to the US and its regional allies. Four sources updated on US intelligence told Reuters that even while the war between Israel and Lebanon was still ongoing, Hezbollah began to recruit new members and was assessing ways to rearm through domestic production and by smuggling materials through Syria.

Last month, Mike Weber got the news every poultry farmer fears: His chickens tested positive for avian flu. By Rabbi Yair Hoffman for 5tjt.com It is called, “B’Ikvei HaGalus”, and its over 700 pages makes it, in all probability, the most comprehensive Torah work on the Churban and subsequent galus  – ever printed. Written by Rabbi Yaakov Beer an Avreich in BMG and a grandson of Rav Mordechai Gifter zt”l, the sefer is structured as a running and deep commentary on Perek HaNizakin in tractate Gittin.  Rabbi Beer shlita cites the questions, he explores the responses in the rishonim and acharonim, and he contrasts the different views with his very powerful analytic skills.

By Rabbi Yair Hoffman for 5tjt.com In the early 1900’s, Judaic studies professors applied mathematical models to estimate the devastating impact of the Roman Catholic Church upon a specific subset of our holy texts.  Namely, the impact was upon the Midrashim. They determined that 90% of the Midrashim that we had in Europe, sadly, are no longer.

by Rabbi Yair Hoffman for 5tjt.com A woman who is in the process of a divorce had explained to her husband that her lawyer had told her that she should lie and say that her husband had physically abused her in order to gain an advantage in terms of custody and child support. The lawyer is ostensibly an observant Jew who is well-regarded in the community in which he resides. This example begs a number of questions:  How often do people lie?  Why do they lie? To whom do they lie? And most importantly, what can we do to make sure we and our children don’t fall victim to it as well?

Volunteer EMTs from Hatzolah of Los Angeles came under fire on Shabbos as they were treating a patient near a shul on Ventura Boulevard in Tarzana, California. Hatzolah was called for a patient suffering a medical episode at the shul when an unrelated fatal shooting at a marijuana dispensary located near the shul occurred. The shooting suspects, panicking at the sight of emergency vehicles rushing to the area, began firing at Hatzolah members on the scene. Thankfully, none of the Hatzolah members were hit, and the suspects fled the scene. A 30-year-old was subsequently found by LAPD officers shot to death at the dispensary. Police are now searching for 6 suspects and are requesting assistance from the public. “All of a sudden we hear like five gunshots, bam! bam! bam! bam!
