In an appearance on Fox & Friends Tuesday morning, Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth pushed back against mounting criticism over the turmoil engulfing the Pentagon under his leadership, blaming the fallout on political enemies and “deep state forces” intent on undermining the Trump administration’s agenda. The embattled Defense Secretary, a former co-host of the morning program, took to the airwaves just days after a damaging stretch of headlines that included the abrupt dismissal of several of his top aides, a scathing Politico column written by one of the ousted staffers calling his tenure “total chaos,” and a New York Times report alleging Hegseth improperly shared classified information over the encrypted messaging app Signal with his wife, brother, and attorney.

Governor Phil Murphy signed legislation on Tuesday granting an exemption from jury duty to nursing women caring for infants up to one year old. The bill, S2236/A1992, allows mothers who are breastfeeding or expressing milk for a child under the age of one to request and receive an automatic exemption from jury service. The outlooks for the U.S. and global economies have significantly worsened in the wake of President Donald Trump’s tariffs and the uncertainty they have created, the International Monetary Fund said Tuesday. The IMF said that the global economy will grow just 2.8% this year, down from its forecast in January of 3.3%, according to its latest World Economic Outlook. And in 2026, global growth will be 3%, the fund predicts, also below its previous 3.3% estimate. And the Fund sees the world’s two largest economies, China and the United States, weakening: U.S. economic growth will come in at just 1.8% this year, down sharply from its previous forecast of 2.7% and a full percentage point below its 2024 expansion. The IMF doesn’t expect a U.S.

President Trump’s Education Secretary, Linda McMahon, has spoken out in strong support of the administration’s move to resume collecting student loan debt, accusing colleges of taking advantage of loan forgiveness initiatives enacted under Biden.
On Monday, the Department of Education revealed that starting May 5, it would resume collection efforts on student loan debt from the approximately 5.3 million individuals currently in default.
In a sharply worded opinion piece published in the Wall Street Journal, McMahon pinned the blame for the student debt crisis on Biden’s policies and institutions of higher learning, saying they’ve misled students while benefitting from the system.
