FBI Director Kash Patel broke with the Trump administration Wednesday over a budget proposal that would dramatically slash funding for the bureau, telling lawmakers, “We need more than what has been proposed.” The 2026 budget proposal released on Friday calls for a funding cut of more than $500 million for the FBI as part of what the White House said was a desire to “reform and streamline” the bureau and reduce “non-law enforcement missions that do not align” with the priorities of President Donald Trump. Patel warned that such a cut would be harmful for the FBI as it reorients priorities to focus on violent crime.

National Unity party leader Benny Gantz stated that Israel’s complete pullout from Gaza in 2005 was a mistake, arguing that suggestions to further retreat or establish a Palestinian state ignore current security needs.
Gantz, a former IDF chief of staff and defense minister, made his remarks while speaking at a “Settlements Conference” in Ofra, located in the West Bank. The event was hosted by the religious-Zionist newspaper Makor Rishon.
His remarks followed the government’s recent declaration that it would begin appropriating land in Gaza. Gantz, who entered the wartime cabinet shortly after Hamas’s brutal October 7, 2023 attack, said he had pushed from the outset for Israel to secure parts of Gaza to establish a security buffer.

Officials said Azhar was eliminated in “Operation Sindhoor,” a mission carried out by the Indian Army.

Israeli Prime Minister Bibi Netanyahu held a key meeting with Shas leader Aryeh Deri and MK Yuli Edelstein, chairman of the Knesset Foreign Affairs and Defense Committee, in a bid to ease tensions over the contentious issue of the proposed chareidi draft legislation.
Individuals familiar with what transpired in the meeting said that Edelstein pushed for a policy that would see at least fifty percent of eligible chareidi men drafted into the IDF. Deri, however, strongly objected to this suggestion and reportedly dismissed the numbers put forward during the discussion.

India fired attack drones into Pakistan on Thursday, wounding four soldiers, the Pakistani military said. India, meanwhile, accused its neighbor of attempting its own attack, as tensions soared between the nuclear-armed rivals. India acknowledged that it targeted Pakistan’s air defense system, and Islamabad said it shot down several of the drones. India said it “neutralized” Pakistan’s attempts to hit military targets. It was not possible to verify all of the claims. The back and forth came a day after Indian missiles struck several locations in Pakistan, killing 31 civilians, according to Pakistani officials. New Delhi said it was retaliating after gunmen killed 26 people, mostly Hindu tourists, in India-controlled Kashmir last month.
